Zhao Rongjie is a Chinese painter, engraver and videographer who studied oil painting and copperplate at Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Her copperplate artwork has been exhibited in China, Japan, Sweden, and the United States. Her “Breathing” series was originally conceived in 1999; in each iteration she seeks to incorporate new painting techniques and multidisciplinary approaches to signify the different phases of the project. Rongjie recently directed a short film documentary called Flight Diary. She lives in an ancient stone home in Dali, Yunnan Province, China.
