The evening began with a presentation by the Globe and Mail’s Food Reporter Ann Hui titled “Chop Suey Nation”, which outlined her travels across Canada exploring the stories behind the uniquely Canadian version of “Chinese Food.” Ann’s presentation was followed by a musical performance by the Northern Ontario band Midnight Shine, who explore First Nations’ culture, tradition, and life through their music. The keynote lecture,“Human Relationships as Land Ethic”, was delivered by Dr. Jeannette Armstrong, an Okanagan knowledge keeper, author, educator, artist, and activist.
