This Big Ideas in Art + Culture talk with artist Derrais Carter is a collective listening session masquerading as a lecture. Pairing musical selections from the Black Revelry Quiet Storm radio show with close readings of Ernie Barnes’ painting The Sugar Shack, we’ll ask what happens when we apply the painting to our social worlds.

At the beginning of the evening Elder Peter Schuler from the Mississaugas of the Credit will open the event, and musician Joni NehRita will be performing a set of live music after the talk.

This event will feature ASL interpretation, live transcription, catered food and a cash bar. The Art Gallery of Guelph is a physically accessible venue. More accessibility information can be found on our General Accessibility Statement.
