A live-streaming performance by Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory

In “Aanersaq – A patch of ground where the snow has melted”, Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory creates an intimate and immediate world for a story about love of land, love of homeland, and homelessness in homeland. This special performance was live-streamed for the ArtsEverywhere Festival from Iqaluit, and Laakkuluk was in conversation with festival co-curator Elwood Jimmy after the performance.

Laakkuluk, a Greenlandic Inuk, uses uaajeerneq (Greenlandic mask dancing), poetry, theatre and performance art to tackle topics ranging from colonization, sexuality, intergenerational strength, fear, boundaries, and love. Laakkuluk is currently long-listed for the 2021 Sobey Art Prize. Previously she was the winner of the Sinchi Indigenous Award (2020), the Kenojuak Ashevak Memorial Award (2018), and co-winner of a Dora Mavor Moore Award (2018).
